A 900-bed, not-for-profit health care system, United Health Services (UHS) is the Greater Binghamton, N.Y., area's largest provider of hospital and related medical, surgical and rehabilitative services.

Formed in 1981 through the consolidation of three independent community hospitals, UHS has grown to become the leading health care institution in upstate New York's Southern Tier. It is a locally founded, owned and managed hospital system, governed by a volunteer board of directors composed of community residents.

UHS' largest member is UHS Hospitals, which operates Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and Binghamton General Hospital in Binghamton. The system is the key provider of such advanced medical services as heart surgery, brain and spinal cord surgery, minimally invasive surgery, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, renal dialysis, chemical dependency treatment, mental health services and medical rehabilitation.
